D-5 days till i'm back in Chicago...
Places I've been in the past two weeks: Merida, Techon, Chocho, SanJose Oriente, Celestun, Lepan, Kanasin, and will be heading for Tipich tomorrow.
whew...it's definitely been interesting going on a missions trip with the objective of vision casting for the college group rather than just staying in one location...but nevertheless it has been a blessing to see God at work in SOOO many different locations. It's a little hard having to settle in get to know the community, experiencing them and forming relationships, and then have to pull yourself out to move on...but it's been touching that at almost every location we left the village ladies would cry for us..
one quick story of what's been going on...
in the village of Celestun we had a schedule of running VBS for three days and then an evening program one night for the parents. this village is absolutely GORGEOUS...it's on the coastline so the gulf of mexico is right next to the church but it's relatively small and not tainted through commercialization so you really get a feel of the country...but more to the point was that there was this one lady who was already doing VBS for the kids when we got there. it turned out she was actually heading up the church while they were looking for a pastor who would commit. Get this...she's 20 years old, just graduated from seminary a year ago and has dedicated her life to this and so she lives in a room half the size of a plex single inbetween the bathrooms in the back of the church. But her heart is amazing!!! just seeing the love she has for the children is so encouraging and humbling...nevertheless, there is so much she needs for the church and the community. well, canaan didn't know that this lady was even going to be at the church let alone the service she was providing but they had decided to fund the church in order to build a small building on the church grounds for a pastor to live in...it was just amazing to see how God worked in her life to bring her to Celestun, and how He gave Canaan the resources to fund what is necessary and the timing of the two was perfect.
but yeah, if you can please still pray for my team and i until we make it back to chicago...we definitely need it now more than ever...God Bless!!! |
